Flyover Faith is built
with your kids in mind.

Host, Ms. Jean, takes students on a five-day trip with Jake and Mr. Simon on Blue Birdie! Together we’ll use our imagination to visit five young people and provide real-life tips to help exercise our faith. Each day Ms. Jean will share a Bible story message to inspire elementary-school aged listeners.

Here’s how Flyover Faith will exercise your students’ faith:

  •  Full Five-day Week of Prayer program
  • Sing-along Discovery Mountain music videos
  • Five sermonettes with Jean Boonstra, where students help choose the Bible stories
  • Fun audio calls with Chaplain Jake and Mr. Simon from Blue Birdie
  • Find encouragement with true-to-life faith challenges and questions
  • Practice geography skills as we fly around the continent
  • Downloadable decision card to exercise your students’ faith

This plug and play virtual Week of Prayer program is designed for students ages K-8th grade. Each program is approximately 30 minutes long. Pair it with student-led prayer activities (suggestions included) to create a 40 minute program.

Day One

Jake and Mr. Simon fly Blue Birdie south to answer Jackson's letter in person! Jackson's won a spot on the Bayou City Cook Off, but he's afraid. His family prayed for him, but he's worried that he'll freeze during the competition! Jackson wonders how he can exercise his faith when he feels afraid? Guess which city Jackson is in, and help choose a Bible story to encourage him to not feel afraid.

Day Two

Mr. Simon and Jake jump back in Blue Birdie and fly north - way north - to visit another friend. Chloe lives on an apple tree farm, where she also practices her favorite sport. Chloe loves hockey - and winning! She wonders how she can exercise her faith when she is obsessed with her team winning. Find out where Chloe's apple tree farm is and choose a Bible story to help her to not feel selfish when she's playing hockey.

Day Three

Jake and Mr. Simon fly Blue Birdie to see Ava. She lives in a high-rise apartment with her mom and her abuela. Ava has big dreams of going to medical school. Ava's dreams were born - just like she was - at the famous Johns Hopkins Hospital. Ava sometimes struggles to focus on her school work, and she wonders if she'll ever be able to achieve her big dreams. Help Jake and Mr. Simon choose a Bible story to encourage her to keep dreaming.

Day Four

Mr. Simon and Jake fly northwest from Ava’s city. It’s a long flight but they’re determined to visit Oliver and help him. He lives close to some famous Presidential faces, but unlike “Honest Abe”, Oliver sometimes exaggerates the facts. Does Oliver really have a zillion head of cattle on his ranch? Jake and Mr. Simon find out and bring Oliver a thoughtful gift that will help him to exercise his faith by always telling the truth.

Day Five

Jake and Mr. Simon fly Blue Birdie west to an island surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. They land Blue Birdie on her floats and rush to find Lily. Lily is feeling lonely and her friends, Jake and Mr. Simon, are there to help! Lily doesn’t understand what happened on the hike with Jasmine and why they don’t seem to be friends anymore. She wonders how she can exercise her faith when she feels so sad and lonely.

Prayer Activity Ideas:

1. Flyover Prayers: Divide students into two groups or two sides of the room. Distribute a piece of paper and pencil to each. Encourage them to write down a prayer request—with names if it’s a public request and without if it’s private. Demonstrate how to fold paper into a plane. Direct students on the count of three to throw their planes to the other side/group. Each student then prays for a request that lands on their side.

2. Sticky Plane: On the side of a wall, use masking tape to create the shape of a plane. Distribute a sticky note and pencil to each student. Encourage them to write down one thing that they are thankful for. Encourage students to post their sticky notes to the plane outline. Student prayer leader closes with prayer—referencing some that are on the wall.

3. Prayer Walk: Student leader chooses a topic close to student’s heart. Invites everyone to walk in a loop around seating area and pray silently about this topic. At the close ask for a couple of testimonies from students about what it was like to walk and pray at the same time.

4. Object Lessons: Gather the following objects in a basket.

Decorations, toys, stickers etc. that represent:

a. Tree or Flower

b. Star or Moon

c. Person

d. River or Lake

e. Animal

f. More objects that represent creation if needed so that there’s one per class.

Student leader invites educators up front. Read Psalm 19:1. Ask the educators to draw an object and take it back to their class. Together talk about how that object declares God’s handiwork (creation) and pray, thanking Him.

5. No strings attached: Distribute a piece of paper and pencil to each student. Ask them to draw a picture of a bunch of balloons held together with string. On the back of the same piece of paper ask them to write their prayer request. Direct students on the count of three to throw their papers up into the air. When they all float to the floor explain that not even real balloons would have sent their requests to God—because they’re not needed. God heard their prayers already—as soon as we wrote them down! He always hears. No strings attached.
